In the medieval European world, blue was hardly accepted, but Saint Louis (Louis IX) would impose it in his coat of arms. The French king, deeply devout, adopted it because it was the color of the Virgin. It was then used in stained glass windows and works of art. Blue fabrics became very popular with kings and then with society as a whole.
